The Barolo “Cannubi” by Michele Chiarlo is simply an icon. Whether for the territory of origin – one of the most renowned and gifted Crus in the entire Barolo area – or for the skill of those who bottled it, what results is a great, truly great Barolo. It tells the story of its homeland with extreme fidelity. So much so that Michele Chiarlo himself wanted a label for this bottle that represented the tiny farmhouse, identified in the local dialect as Ciabòt, that stood in the middle of the vineyard. It is a wine of exemplary elegance and deep territoriality.
The “Cannubi” Barolo by Michele Chiarlo comes from the eponymous Cru, located not far from the village of Barolo. It originates, therefore, in that hemisphere dedicated to the creation of elegant wines, played on finesse and delicacy. The vineyard dedicated to this label extends over an area of about 1 hectare, defined by a soil composed of Elvezian and Tortonian marls, predominantly sandy and well-endowed with microelements but poor in organic matter. The vineyard is located in the heart of Cannubi at an altitude of 240 meters above sea level and has a south and southwest exposure. The harvest is conducted manually in October and allows for the best bunches to be transported to the winery. These are subjected to alcoholic fermentation for a period of 15 days. This is followed by aging in oak barrels for about 2 years. 15 months of resting in the bottle makes it ready to be marketed.
Michele Chiarlo Barolo “Cannubi” presents itself to the eye with an intense ruby red color. Its bouquet consists of a dense weave of cherries, blackberries, licorice, mint, tar, and tobacco, articulating in rich and layered aromas. On the palate, it showcases a great body and finely polished tannins. The still vivid freshness provides excellent balance to the sip. It is one of those wines that leaves you in awe.
