The Kabir Donnafugata is a sweet and pleasant expression of Zibibbo from the island of Pantelleria, also known as Moscato di Alessandria. It is a natural sweet wine, obtained from fresh must, without resorting to drying the grapes and without the addition of alcohol. Its name, as well as its exuberant aromatic profile, is a tribute to the culture and Arab traditions of the island. “Kabir” indeed means “The Great” in Arabic and refers to the richness of aromas and scents that characterize it.

The Zibibbo grapes are harvested in light over-ripening during the month of September from old low-trained bush vines over 100 years old. The vineyards are arranged in terraces on the volcanic sandy soils of Pantelleria, and each single plant is protected by small hollows dug into the ground, which serve as shelter from the wind and sun. It is a suggestive and charming landscape, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The natural and pedoclimatic conditions make cultivation on the island difficult, which is why we can speak of heroic viticulture.

heroic. The harvested grapes are taken to the winery and subjected to a soft pressing, followed by fermentation in steel and a brief maturation for a few months in steel tanks and then in bottles. This process allows for the preservation of a good sugar residue of about 110 g/l and a low alcohol content; characteristics that ensure the wine has a great drinking pleasure characterized by sweetness, freshness, and intensity.

The Moscato di Pantelleria “Kabir” can be considered a dessert wine but can be paired creatively with anchovies, smoked fish, goat cheeses, aged or blue cheeses. It presents itself dressed in a straw-yellow cloak tending towards gold, with good consistency, generously offering territorial aromas of orange blossoms, exotic fruit, and citrus zest. These sweet notes integrate with pleasant mineral nuances of flint. On the palate, it is sweet, soft, fresh, and immediate. Harmony, tradition, and great drinking pleasure are the synthesis of a glass of this Zibibbo. Sometimes it feels like hearing the sea crashing on the sunny and bright shores of Pantelleria.
